House for Sidney Johnson, East Hampton, New York

This beach house, built for a bachelor and his disabled mother, required two separate living units accessible by wheelchair; Nelson thus equipped the house with two ramps. The console roofs of the two dwelling cubes continue the angle of the ramps. The living unit facing the beach was raised on stilts to provide an ocean view. Contrary to Nelson's plans, the free space beneath this living unit was covered to provide a garage.
