Safety glass

Manufacturer: Monsanto (St. Louis, Missouri)

Monsanto commissioned Nelson's company to identify possible applications for safety glass outside the auto industry. The safety glass consisted of two panes of glass that enveloped a plastic layer of butyral that could be silk-screened to feature a pattern. Nelson's studio suggested supplying the glass with patterns the studio would develop and using the panes as room dividers, such as here at the Georgia Center for Continuing Education, in Athens, Georgia, where Nelson's company handled the interior design.
